CONFUCIUS

China is a great country. It lies to the east of Bharat. Many great and learned men have lived there.

Foremost among these was Confucius.He lived in China 2,500 years ago.

Ho was the name of his father, and Chent -sai that of his mother.

Confucius was a tall man. He had small eyes. He grew a short beard.

He was very wise and learned.

He wandered all over China. Many kings and nobles sought his advice. He was a minister too.

He was a master of all the six ancient arts.

These arts were ceremonies, music, archery, carriage driving, reading and mathematics.

A great many people came to study under him.

He taught poetry, history, ceremonies and music to 3,000 pupils.

Of these, several became experts in various skills.
