| Seconds,
minutes, hours, mornings, afternoons, evenings, days, nights, weeks, months, seasons,
years, decades, and generations are various units of time from which we have no
escape. We depend on time, but time is not dependent on us. There is time in the
most congested cities where teeming millions gather, and, there is time in forlorn deserts
where none inhabits. What are the differences among
an infant, a child, an adolescent, an adult, a middle- aged, the old, the very old? Is it
not time? What is the age of a person, an era in history, a century, or a millenium? Is it
not time? What is today? What was yesterday? What will be tomorrow? Is it not time? What
is old and what is new? Is it not time? O time, indispensable time, inscrutable
time, thou art invisible, thou art inescapable, thou art here, thou art there, thou art
everywhere! O what mystery of time! |
