The selection of an auspicious day and time - which is determined on
the basis of the most propitious configuration of the cosmo for a marriage - signifies
that each one of us is an integral part of the entire cosmos, and an integral cosmic law
governs us all.
Hence auspicious time of marriage is believed to enhance in
the life of the newly wed couple.
The place of marriage ceremony (mandap), is considered
sacred in a Hindu marriage.
The mandap represents the entire world where nine poles
represent the nine planets.
The guardians of the eight quarters of the world that are
represented in the nuptial canopy are:
Indra God of the celestials (East pole)
Agni Fire God (South east pole)
Yama God judge of human actions (South pole)
