PREFACE

Great sages and thinkers like Ramakrishna Parama hamsa, Swami Vivekananda, Mahatma Gandhi, Aravinda Ghosh and others have proclaimed in  no uncertain terms that love Of One's brother is tantamount to love of God. An exclusive love of God in solitude away from human surroundings and activities cannot help one to achieve the goal of realisation of God. The doctrine of love and service is not peculiar to Christianity alone, but it is also the fundamental doctrine of Hindu religion. This I have endeavoured to show with elaborate references to our scriptures, epics and puranas.

I am very grateful to Kulapati Dr. K.M. Munshi and Sri S. Ramakrishnan for undertaking to publish this book in the Bhavan's Book University Series. I am much indebted to Dr. A. Lakshmana. swami Mudaliar who presided over these lectures and for his kindness in writing a Forewcrd to it which I value greatly.
