HUMANITARIAN IDEALS

  The inspiration of Christian humanitarianism

This great ideal of love and service preached by the Bible has been the inspiration for the great humanitarian work organised by the Christian Missions all over the world, such as the establishment of hospitals for tending and curing the sick, the great, educational institutions and orphanages and other kinds of social work among the poor and the needy. Impelled by this adventurous spirit of service, the missionaries visit even distant lands and work among the poor in all parts of the world.

Of course, one should never forget that there is also another motive for the Christian Missions viz., to spread the religion of the Christ among the non - Christians. The humanitarian work done by them has been to a large extent inspired by this motive also. Reliance is placed for this motive upon the scriptural injunction contained in the Bible-Book of St. Matthew’s-Chapter 28 - Paragraphs 19 and 20: -

Para 19: "Go ye therefore, and teach all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy
Ghost:

Para 20 : Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you; and, lo, I am with you always, even upto the end of the world, Amen."
