HUMANITARIAN IDEALS

It runs as follows: -

He who does not feed a guest or help a friend in distress but eats alone, eats only sin. To speak the truth, the Lord has bestowed food on him in vain."

The seventh verse declares that " Every man should deem it a duty to help the poor and perform righteous deeds and thus go through, the journey of life. The peasant who wields the plough produces food for others. The learned man who makes a gift of his learning to others is superior to
one that does not teach. A person of charitable disposition ready to help one in need is superior to, one who does not help others." 'I The eighth verse is of great importance. It enjoins. on a person the true spirit in which help should be rendered to the poor. It points out the tendency on the part of the people higher in the scale of life on account of their opulence to patronize those who are in the lower strata on account of their inferior wealth and do charity in a spirit of vanity.

On the other hand. as pointed out by the ninth verse, inequality in the matter of worldly possessions should not affect the spirit of brotherliness and charity that must prevail among all sections of the community. These inequalities are inevitable and natural. The two hands of a person do not perform the same kind of work even though they are like each other in every respect." Even two calves born to the same mother do not yield equal amount of milk when they grow. Two persons may be twins, but their capacity and potentialities may be different.
