In the
Silappadhikaram, one of the most famous of Tamil classics, reference has again been made
to the heroism of King Sibi as follows -'
(1) He who relieved the distress of the bird much to the wonder of evens the Gods;
(ii) He who cut his flesh and finally himself entered the balance when the portion of his
flesh was, found to weigh less than that of the bird."
In the Kalingathu parani, another well - known Tamil classic reference to King Sibi is
made as under :-
"He who cut his own flesh for the purpose of weighing it in the balance and entered
the balance for weighing himself against the bird." The above stanza occurs in the course of the description of the
predecesors of King Kulothunga Chola. In the Moovar Ula-a great Tamil classic about three
Chola Kings-Raja Raja, Kulothunga and Vikrama we also find reference to the great
sacrifice of King Sibi.
