ARE OUR CLASSICS WORLD-NEGATING? |
|
|
| The Isavasya
Upanishad clearly declares that a person should engage himself in work and desire to live
for full one hundred years. But the attitude in which he should lead his life in the world
is mentioned in the first line-of the Upanishad. 'Everything that exists in the world is
enveloped by God.' That is to say, we should see the existence of God in everything and do
our work accordingly. Mahatma Gandhi adopted this
line of the Upanishad as his central motto for his life work. It should also be noted that
the Brahma Sutras whose author is Veda Vyasa, recognises the existence of those who did
not care for their salvation but who always remained in the world to work for the welfare
of mankind. Such persons are called aadhikarika purushas: yaavadadhikaaram
