| A characteristic
statement of this contrast is found in Dr. Schweitzer's account of Indian
Thought." Dr. Radhakrishnan further points out that Dr. Schweitzer is of the
opinion that the world of life-affirmation results in social service while the other world
of life-negation takes no interest in the world which it dismisses as a stage - play or at
best a puzzling pilgrimage to eternity. It has to be pointed out in this connection that our Hindu Dharma
recognises and enjoins the four stages of life, the last only being that of a Sanyasa or
renouncing the family and the word altogether. But every individual has to pass
through the four. Every person, in whatever stage of life he is for the moment, should do
active work and fulfill all the five daily duties already referred to. |
