| In his book on
Eastern Religions and Western Thought', Dr. Radhakrishnan makes pointed reference to this
criticism of the Hindu ideal. On page 64, he amplifies the content of this criticism as
follows: -"Unfortunately a tendency has grown of late to distinguish Eastern
mysticism from the Western, or to be more practise, Hindu mysticism from Christian by
contrasting the immense ethical seriousness of the latter with the ethical indifference of
the former. Christian thought, it is said, is
dynamic and creative. It affirms the reality of the world and the meaningfulness of
life.Hindu thought on the other hand is said to deny the reality of the world, to despair
of human life, to poison the very springs of thought and activity and exalt death and
immortality. It dots not create power and purpose directed to high ends. |
