Vedaranyam - 63 Nayanmars Page16

There is a well by name Vishwamitra Teertham, which is even now the only source of good water for the whole village.

Vishnu collected in a vessel the Amrita got by churning the Milky Ocean and asked Vayu (the Wind God) to keep it in the harem of Indra. When Vayu hurried up -with it, the vessel containing nectar fell into the Vedavana. Vayu and the Devas following him got terrified. Vishnu said that Vayu was not to be blamed for careless ness but that it was the Will of Lord Siva Himself. At that spot Siva took the form of Amrita Linga.

He appeared in his usual form and told the Devas that he would continue to be there in the name of Amritesa and that on account of his stay there, the place was going to be known as Uttarakoti. He added that a holy bath there would invest one with greatness and remove the fear of foes. Subsequently, a sage by name Kulagar came to worship the deity there, as a result of whom it came to be, called Kulagar Koil.
