Temples And Legends Of Tamilnadu Page3

So he prayed to God. God as usual relieved the distress of his devotee. The successor was found in one Ratnave Chettiar who was a friend of Annaswamy Nayagar. Ratnavel Chettiar was a prominent businessman of the Thousand Lights area of Madras. So when Annaswamy one day opened this subject to Chettiar, he did not agree to take up the burden, leaving his family and children at home. Disappointed in his request, Annaswamy had to pray to God again. God appeared in his dream and told him that his friend Ratnavel Chettiar would himself go to him and take up the responsibility.

One day Ratnavel Chettiar was attending to his business in his shop at Thousand Lights. To his great amazement he found that the clothes he wore had turned saffron in color. How and why it happened he could not understand and took it to be an act of God. That night God appeared in his dream and told him to go to Annaswamy Nayagar on the ensuing Shashti day (the 6th of the bright fortnight) and become his disciple and distribute Vibhuti to his devotees.
