Temples And Legends Of Tamilnadu Page5

A dead body is considered inauspicious and more so inside the temple precincts. When the corpse of Yama was lying near Siva, the head attendant, Kundodara, attempted to remove the corpse from the presence of the Lord. The image of Kundodara in the action of dragging the dead body is to be seen at the pedestal of Kalasamharamurti, which is encased in silver covering, which is removed on request, for getting clear vision.

As Yama was dead, there was none to bring about the death of the persons inhabiting the earth. Life prolonged with the continuous creation. The equilibrium was upset and mother Earth complained to Brahma of the increasing pressure of weight of the Universe. Brahma said that he had no power lo stop creating. They went to Vishnu. He said: "We will go to Lord Siva.
