Temples and Legends of Andhra Pradesh Page6

The main Gopura facing the east is a solid huge structure, built partly of stone and partly of brick. The stone part contains exquisite figures of Vidyadhara, Apsaras and Avatars in neat and well-arranged rows. Just above the line of threshold, there are two horizontal lines of carvings one showing the elephantal procession and the other the procession of horses, all going from one end to the other. Inside the temple, every wall is covered with beautiful and delicately delineated pieces of artistic sculpture. A stone chariot, which is a masterpiece of architectural design, is also available. Two holes are carved into the chariot and it is stated that twice a year the Sun's rays are reflected through these to the foot of the deity.
