Rudrah, He who drives away sin, i.e., Janardana;6 sarvah, He who, destroying Hiranyaksa and others, affords the world happiness that results from the sportive deeds,7 mahadevah, He is great because lie is the agent of many deeds, and god because He goes to the sacrifices for accepting the offering of soma drink.8 Some of these names occur in the Siva-sahasranama-stotra also.
6. rujam dravayate yasmad rudrah tasmaj-janardanah See Satyasandha Yati:
Jarardana is referred to as Rudra in the bhasya since He drives away all physical ailments. Rudra is so called as He makes the enemies of His devotees cry or weep aloud; makes drum, etc., to emit sound and is pleased by the sound arising from the singing of His glory by His devotees.
