"O Name of Siva! The gods like Brahma carry on their beads the dust of the feet of me who utters with his tongue sentences such as these 'sati vat' me (It is like the moon) and 'upa-vasati' (He lives on sea-shore), sentences which contain the letters that are like your shadow; O Mother! is it a wonder that thaw who are established in you are victorious?"
Cranium tvac-chayam sasi-vad upavarasi vasati-
tyadomukhya-suktiso-api rasanaya sankalayatah
Panagam brahmadyah padakalitam-ancanti sirasa
Sivakhye tvan-nisthair jitam iti kim ambadbhutam idam.12
In another hymn, sivabhakti- kalpalatika Ayyaval addresses the Great Lord and says:
"Are you not the supremely compassionate one! O Lord, you are on the look-out; for some Pretext to save people, when words such as 'ahara' (bring), 'prahara' (take away), and 'samhara (destroy), containing the letters ha-ra are spoken by them, you think that they are uttering your name and save them!"
apyahara-prahara-samhara-vagvadasya
tratasy-upattam amuna mama nama hiti
evam vibho tanubhrtam avanepyupayanvesi
katham paramakaruniko'si na tvam.13
