SUNDARAR

When Sundarar came of age, his parents fixed up his marriage with a young girl of the neighbouring village.

Just at the time of the marriage God Siva came there in the guise of an old brahmin and shouted: "Stop! The boy is -my slave; I won't let him marry!"

Sundarar became annoyed and rebuked the brahmin saying:

"Are you mad? It cannot be so because there is no system of slavery among brahmins."

"I shall prove it. Here is the document executed by your grandfather pledging him and his descendants as my eternal   slaves!" retorted the old man flourishing a document before him.
