PARIKSHIT

When the rishi's son Sringi returned, he was horrified to see a dead snake dangling from his father's neck.

He at once pronounced a curse: "Whoever insulted my father in this manner shall die of serpent bite on the seventh day from now."

When the old rishi awoke, he learnt of the curse and felt sorry; he knew by his spiritual power that it was king Parikshit  who slung the dead snake around his neck and he was a good monarch.

So he chided his son for his hasty act.

The curse, however, could not be revoked.

The rishi therefore sent word to the king about his son's curse.
