AKBAR

Akbar challenged, "He will deliver them; what do you say?"

Birbal cooley replied, "If he does so, I shall place his name on top and remove yours!"

Akbar had a hearty laugh and forgave the minister. He could enjoy fun at his own expense.

Akbar had a great love of Sanskrit literature. He had portions from the Vedas, the Ramayana, and the Mahabharata translated into Persian. He patronised art and music. The great musician Tansen flourished in his Court. Abul Fazal, the historian who was attached to his Court, has given glowing accounts of the life and times of Akbar in his "Akbar-Nama" although portions of it are exaggerated as is the case with all Court chronicles.
