AMRITA MANTHAN

After a time came Kamadhenu from the ocean. It was the sacred cow that had the inexhaustible power to give anything one asked for, and in any quantity.

After Kamadhenu, came a white horse called Uchchaisravas; then appeared an elephant called Airavata. After that followed one after another the jewel Kaustubha, the divine flower Parijata, the divine women Apsaras, Goddess Lakshmi, the wise goddess Varuni.

At last a Deva called Dhanvantari appeared from the ocean carrying a jar of Amrita or nectar.

At once, the demons snatched the jar from his hands and ran away with it.

Soon, however, they started quarrelling among themselves. Each one wanted to drink it first.
