NAMMALVAR

While praying at the shrine of Sri Rama there, he saw a brilliant light coming from the south.

He walked in its direction for days together and came to Tirunagari!

There he saw the glorious light emanating from Maran. At once he knew Maran to be a divine youth.

On seeing Madhura kavi, Maran, who later came to be known as Nammalvar, opened his eyes.

The two spoke words of wisdom when they conversed with each other. At the end, Madhura Kavi said to Nammalvar: "Please accept me as your disciple."

Nammalvar agreed to do so and taught Madhura kavi about a more sublime love of God.

Nammalvar thereafter sang the glories of God in a number of devotional verses.
