AJANTA

There are some beautiful sculptures too. The figures of Naga Raja and Rani in one of the caves are the ones most admired. There is also a figure ofa mother and child.

The Ajanta caves contain some of the finest works of art.We see images of kings and queens, princes and princesses, soldiers and generals, Brahmins and monks, shopkeepers and their customers. We see animals such as horses, eleph- ants, bulls, lions, wolves and monkeys. We see all kinds of birds, trees and people. All are cut out in stone.

We see at Ajanta paintings of Yakshas that is, heavenly beings, palaces and huts. We also see many kinds of costumes and jewellery in the wall-paintings of Ajanta.

A great European painter said of the cave temples of Ajanta: "They are a living drama of life. Everyone must go and see them."
