AYODHYA

The great Ramayana contains a vivid description of the Ayodhya of those times.

There were many palaces and other big buildings in Ayodhya. The people- were prosperous, No one spoke ill of his fellow men. All lived long lives.

Near Ayodhya runs the river Sarayu.

Since Rama was born in Ayodhya, it has become a holy city for us.

It is holy for the Buddhists and Jains too. The Buddha, and Adinatha, the Jain saint, also lived here.

In Ayodhya, there are many temples. The Kanaka Bhavan is one of the more famous of the temples. Here the idols of Rama and Sita are seen on a golden throne. There is a Hanuman temple too. The idol of Hanuman there is very big. A number of monkeys live near the temple.
