MANIKKA VACHAKAR

God Siva felt sorry for his devotee. So, he caused a big flood appear in the river Vaigai, flowing through Madurai.

The waters - entered the city. Many houses fell. People shouted, "Release Vaadavoorar, and the flood will go away!"

The king did so, and the flood stopped.

At the same time the voice of God came from heaven. "O King, you treated my devotee harshly. So I punished you with this flood.

The money you gave to him to buy horses was wrongly taken from your subjects. So you did not get your horses. The money was spent on my worship. So do not make Vaadavoorar suffer any more!

The king fell at the feet of his minister on hearing these words from God, and begged his pardon.
