SAMARTHA RAMADAS

Narayana's father passed away after giving him the sacred thread when Narayana was but seven years of age.

One day when he was going twelve, Narayan requested his brother to initiate him in Rama-mantra; but the latter refused,
because Narayana was too young for it. Narayana felt disappointed.

Often Narayana remained aloof and did not take interest in the family activities. He was seen either meditating in a room
or lost in contemplation.

With a view to correcting him from this path, his family arranged his marriage with the daughter of a family friend. The
marriage-day arrived and Narayana sat by the bride before the altar. But just at the time of uttering the mantra for the marriage,

Narayana ran away from the place to the consternation of all assembled.
