LORD CHITRAGUPTA

Thereupon Lord Siva sent Kamadhenu to Indra to live in his place. He ordered Chitragupta to enter the womb of Kama- dhenu and take birth as her child. Chitra- gupta obeyed the order and Kamadhenu delivered a child on Sunday, in the month of Chaitra which was a Poornima day in the Chitra Graha.

There are said to be fourteen temples in South India dedicated to Lord Chitragupta. The one at Kanchi which is famous for the very large number of temples abounding therein, is majestic in architecture and worship is done there by people belonging to all faiths.

Chitragupta here, is believed to be the Adhi Devata (the patron God) of Ketu Graha. Of all the nine graha in Hindu astrology the Kent Graha is feared most because of its malevolent aspect. It is
believed that worship at the temple of Chitragupta at Kanchi will save one from the inimical aspect of Ketu.
