INHERITED PROPENSITIES

Goodness, the spirit of activity and inertia are the principles that move men; they are matter-born; while in the body the soul, though itself immutable, is tied up to and moved by those qualities.

That man has attained My spirit who has realised that there is no agency other than the qualities of material nature, and who has seen that which stands higher than these qualities.

XIV-19

There is no being on earth or even in heaven among the gods that is liberated from these three qualities born of matter.

XVIII-40

That which you desire to abstain from through false notions, even that you will helplessly do, impelled by the motion of your own nature.

XVIII-60
